[It's true that he's starting to get a feel for exactly how to time these things, even if technically he doesn't mind Hikage running his mouth and in fact has minded it less and less as time went on -- and maybe that's just a symptom of whatever their relationship is supposed to be or how much Subete has flown off the racetrack of humanity, but it's hard to say whether he was on it in the first place.
In so many ways he's always had a foot off the beaten track; and maybe that's why he finds himself so off-balance when someone new is in step with him, when he can reach out and touch like this and be touched in return. Maybe it was a reminder to himself as much as it was a reminder to Hikage that it takes two to tango.
There is a laugh when Hikage finally finds his words, though -- muffled in dark hair given the position they've ended up in, Subete wrapping himself and his silly robes around him without a second thought because muscle memory sure is a thing and maybe that could be said for pillows too.]
That's a high-end offer, though. You do know how to drive a bargain.
[He doesn't drop into sleep immediately but he does let his eyes slide closed finally, the briefest pressure where his mouth is still tucked against Hikage's hair with that one stubborn tuft tickling his nose turning the laughter into something softer.
Ahh, it's warm here in a way he hardly recognizes, and maybe that's why it takes so much for them to get here. But what he'd reached out and grasped at fleetingly that first night is still true: he'd still like to keep this.
After a day like today, maybe that even makes a little more sense? Who knows.]
